How to maintain and take care of your DuchessBrands remy hair extensions.
First I should say congratulations on purchasing your DuchessBrands Hair Extensions, the best quality hair on the market. Now after making such a great choice you To keep your extensions always looking movie star prefect, salon professional care is optimal, but when that is not possible the following hair care tips are recommended
Before washing you should brush and de-tangle your hair from ends to root to ensure there are no naturally occurring tangles caused by wind or friction.
Wash your hair thoroughly once or twice a week. When doing so, be sure to be as gentle on the bonds or careful around the wefts as possible. Never washing your hair with your head down but instead keep your head up. This is easiest in the shower. Shampoo your hair gently in a downward (vertical) motion with your palms, do not scrub or bunch the hair together as this will cause open cuticles to rub against each other causing friction.
Conditioning the hair is what keep it hydrated as it no longer get nutrients from the scalp, and is vital to its maintenance.
After you have shampooed and thoroughly rinsed your hair apply a generous amount of Conditioner to the hair. Gently comb hair with a wide tooth comb, to assure even coverage. Rinse conditioner from your hair with warm water.
Natural oils do the work of most conditioners without the added chemicals and silicones, also don’t forget that natural is usually best. Add a few drops of natural oil such as Coconut or Almond by gently applying it evenly over the hair, these oils will penetrate the cuticles and add moisture to hair extensions. Rinse your hair with cold water to close the cuticles and lock in the moisture and nutrients from the oil, leaving you with nutrient rich hair extensions.
After thoroughly rinsing your hair, squeeze out excess water and pat dry with towel, do not rub or twist your hair extensions.
Assure your hair is thoroughly dried after washing by checking the wefts or bond sites to be sure there is no excess dampness.
Style your hair as recommended by your stylist. Remember heat is your hair’s biggest enemy, weather your own hair your extension, so never use high temperatures as it can damage the cuticles of your hair and only use moderate temperature in moderation. For daily styling keep products to a minimum, and when styling with heat use a alcohol free heat protective spray. You can also apply a small amount of coconut, argan or almond oil when needed. Keep in mind that argan oil is a dry oil, and while its a great finishing oil for styling and keeping frizz at bay, it is not as good as coconut or almond oil at adding hydration/moisture to your hair.
HAIR CARE PRODUCTS
Not all products are suitable for hair extensions. You should use organic or sulfate or paraben free shampoo and a good leave conditioner to keep your hair soft. Avoid hair products that contain alcohol which can make the hair dry.
Chlorine and salt water are harmful to your hair and to your extensions but you can still go to the pool and/or the beach and still enjoy the water. Note that whenever you go swimming but especially if you go to the beach you should always replenish your hair and extensions with a deep conditioning treatment.
Prior to swimming comb out any tangles in your hair, apply leave in conditioner and braid hair into one large ponytail. After swimming (Never allow your hair to dry with chlorine/salt water), undo braid, completely rinse the salt/chlorine water from your hair, squeeze towel dry, apply leave in conditioner, comb hair and allow to air dry.
Hair should be braided in a ponytail, avoid wearing in a messy bun. Brush hair thoroughly as directed before and after activities and apply leave in conditioner.
To ensure your extensions do not tangle while sleeping, we recommend that you comb through your hair thoroughly and detangle where necessary, braid, wrap or ponytail your hair together. Also never go to bed with wet or loose extensions as it can cause horrible matting not only to the extensions but also to your own hair.
